Currency in the Czech Republic

The official currency is the Czech Crown (Koruna, CZK). Exchange rates are published daily by the Czech National Bank. Foreign currencies such as Euro or Dollar are not widely accepted, so it is recommended to pay in CZK. Exchange offices and ATMs are available throughout the city. Major credit cards (MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Diners Club, etc.) are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops.

Climate

Prague has a temperate continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant. In June, daytime temperatures usually range between 20 and 25 °C, while evenings can be cooler. Light clothing is suitable for summer, but bring a jacket for the evenings.

Time Zone

Standard time in the Czech Republic is GMT +1, and daylight saving time (GMT +2) is observed from the end of March to the end of October.

Electricity

The electrical supply in the Czech Republic is 230 V / 50 Hz. Plug type E is used (two round pins with an additional grounding hole). Most hotels provide adapters upon request.

Czech Cuisine

Czech cuisine is famous for its hearty traditional dishes and rich flavors. You will find a wide variety of restaurants in Prague offering both local and international dishes. Popular Czech foods include svíčková (marinated beef with creamy sauce), guláš (goulash), řízek (schnitzel), bramboráky (potato pancakes), and knedlíky (dumplings). Don’t forget to try Czech beer, considered one of the best in the world.

Shopping

Prague offers excellent shopping opportunities — from traditional markets and local craft shops to modern shopping malls. Popular items include Bohemian crystal, garnet jewelry, wooden toys, and Czech porcelain. The Old Town, Wenceslas Square, and Na Příkopě Street are among the most popular shopping areas.

Transportation

Public transport in Prague is efficient and affordable, including metro, trams, and buses. Tickets can be purchased from machines, at metro stations, or via mobile apps. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also available, but always check the fare before starting your ride.

Tourist Attractions

Prague is known as the “City of a Hundred Spires”, rich in history and architecture. Must-see attractions include Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Astronomical Clock, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Lesser Town (Malá Strana), Petrin Hill and Observation Tower, and Vltava River cruises.
